|Name: Trent “Smokes” Smoker
When did you play for the Falcons?
Position played? Half Back
Favourite position? Doggy
Why did you come down to the Mighty Falcons Nest?
Big “Q” Cumbers brought Nathan Cattle down to the Falcons in early 2012. I moved to Melbourne mid 2012, was never going to play anywhere else.
Who were the coaches you have had in your time at the club and can you tell us a bit about each of them?
Robbo – Angry. Perfect reserves coach. Should still be doing it. Legend.
Oop & his gang – eclectic mix of humans. Great mentors but got frustrated with mediocrity. Oop spat when he talked.
Payney – maniac, but great coach. Very strong strategic thinker, taught me a lot about opposition analysis… but knew how to ruin people in pre-season.
Al – strong in his plans and convictions…. Backed players to have confidence in themselves which is a great coaching philosophy.
Shops – no better club man ever. Leads by example in sacrifice and loyalty… not many people who can say their dedication to a footy club has cost them 2 marriages.
Can you give us a few of your highlights both on and off the field since being at the club?
On the field – Snowy’s 100th vs Northern Blues (Preston) in 2015. They were top of the ladder, we were middle of the road. Their home ground, we won by 3 points in the toughest and best win I had at the club. Also the day we played Kew…. 8 degrees – it hailed during the twos…. And there was no hot water after the game. Shambles
Off the field – so much random stuff…. Although I didn’t witness it; the liquorice of another male’s shaft incident from last year is close to top of the pops. Second by only a whisker is when Oop gave the team a pre game spray about commitment because 2 blokes were running late to the game because they spent the morning moving a fridge…. The incident was amusing, but it took a turn when Oop’s suggested punishment was that he stick his dick in our ar$es…… to this day im not sure if he was serious or not.
What are some of the nicknames you have had during your time at the club, and where did they come from?
A few…. All fairly self-explanatory – Smokes, General, Legend
Favourite nickname – 2 cuts…. Its not every day a man has two haircuts in one day, so deserves to be known as 2 cuts.
Greatest player you have seen (played with) pull on the mighty Red and Blue?
Standard answer is Disco, although I played with him when he was busted and broken so never really saw the best of him. Played a bit with Sam Jess who was a gun. But for admiration of ability and philosophy on the game I rate Courtney Wright highly. Held himself accountable to a very high standard and expected other to do the same.
Greatest Falcons team you have been involved with?
Have to be 2014/2015 side under payney…. It’s the only time we played finals
Greatest victory you have been involved with?
See above – Snowy’s 100th
Most memorable player you have played with?
Johnny Cleland…. Seriously smart dude, but rocks up to every game fully kitted out in his footy gear carrying his boots…. WTF….. they are called Change rooms for a reason man.
What would you say were your strengths and weaknesses of your game?
Weaknesses….. Skills, Pace, Agility… the list goes on
What are you doing now?
Completing this questionnaire that you told me would only take 10 minutes…..
What is your greatest memory from your time with the Falcons?
The fact that in my whole time at the club, we have had a clock on the wall that has not worked. I hold Party Joel 100% accountable for this outcome…. Fix the f***ing clock Joel.
